What is GIA-9, or OGE?

Main state exam. By the way, it received the pretentious name “main” quite deservedly: absolutely all schoolchildren, without exception, take this exam (unlike the Unified State Exam). In the ninth grade, every Russian must pass four subjects in the OGE format: Russian, mathematics and two to choose from.

You need to pass everything with a C or higher, otherwise you simply won’t get a certificate, you’ll have to retake the OGE until all four subjects are completed. If you couldn’t pass one or two subjects, you are given a chance to retake it on a reserve day in the same year, but if you couldn’t, only a year later. By the way, the results of the OGE also affect the grade on the certificate!

Today, all students are allowed to take the OGE without any additional tests, but very soon a final interview (oral part in Russian) will become mandatory.

What is the Unified State Examination?

The Unified State Exam, which is taken in the 11th grade for admission to higher educational institutions of the country. This exam covers grades 5-11 of the school curriculum, so many topics in the OGE and the Unified State Exam coincide.

All eleventh graders are required to take the Russian language in the Unified State Exam format and mathematics. At the same time, those who do not enter a university with mathematics can choose the basic level of difficulty.

You need to pass these two subjects with at least the minimum score if you want to get a certificate. The remaining subjects are chosen by the student himself. All graduates take the Unified State Exam on the territory of another school, under camera surveillance.

The format of the OGE and the Unified State Exam are similar, but the second, of course, is more difficult, so you need to start preparing for it from the tenth grade. Unlike the OGE, there are no standard school grades; a hundred-point system is in effect.

To be admitted to the Unified State Exam, you must write a final essay on literature and receive a pass.

What are we talking about?

For schoolchildren, the most important thing is 11th grade and the final exam (USE). They prepare for it several months in advance and carefully select items: they must match the requirements. The second most important is the OGE - the Main State Exam. It is taken by 9th grade graduates, after which they either remain in school or can transfer to a college or technical school.

Attention! The abbreviation “GIA” (State Final Attestation) is sometimes considered synonymous with OGE, but in fact, GIA combines OGE and Unified State Examination.

The OGE is a mandatory exam for all schoolchildren. Since 2014, it consists of 4 exams (since 2017 - 5), of which 2 sciences (Russian language and mathematics) are mandatory for everyone, the rest are optional. The Ministry of Education plans to gradually increase the number of optional exams (one every 2 years) in order to improve the level of education of schoolchildren.

Each OGE exam must be passed with no worse than a “C”, otherwise some time is given to retake it. If a student does not correct his grade or does not appear for the exam, then instead of a certificate he will receive a certificate of completion of training. It is possible to retake the OGE only next year.

How to choose

Since almost all students continue to study after finishing 9th grade, the OGE is not considered an important or decisive test. Its results only affect admission to a college or technical school; otherwise, it is enough for a student not to get a bad grade.

How many subjects to take in 9th grade

Currently, the mandatory OGE exams include mathematics and the Russian language. However, it is worth recalling that back in 2015, the Ministry of Education started talking about increasing the number of exams in the coming years.

In fact, previously four subjects were already offered for passing the OGE. Until 2014, the compulsory subjects included mathematics and Russian, and the other two could be chosen at your own discretion. At the same time, the choice of additional items in reality was as follows:

• social studies - 40%;
• biology - 21.5%;
• Physics - 12.8%.

Starting in 2017, it was decided to return to the practice of passing several exams. As stated by Deputy Minister of Education N. Tretyak, in 2017 and 2018 they are going to introduce two more compulsory subjects, and by 2020 the next two subjects will be added. Thus, in the near future, in order to pass the OGE, it will be necessary to pass the following number of compulsory subjects:

• from 2016 - 2017 - 4;
• since 2018 – 5;
• after 2020 – 6.

Already in 2017, OGE grades in compulsory subjects will begin to influence the student’s school certificate. Students who fail the required courses will be forced to retake them in August.

It is not yet known what specific items will be introduced. However, there are rumors that physics and history will be among the compulsory subjects.

Why are additional exams introduced?

Analyzing the situation with education in recent years, experts have come to the conclusion that the level of training of schoolchildren who pass only two mandatory exams for the General State Examination has dropped sharply.

After the introduction of two compulsory subjects, the situation changed dramatically and students began to choose mainly mathematics and the Russian language for passing the OGE - 90%. Other items were distributed as follows:

• social studies - 9%;
• biology - 3.5%;
• physics - 4.1%.

Analyzing this table and the one shown above, you can see that the overall level of education has become much lower. It turns out that out of sixteen subjects currently taught for high school students, almost only two are controlled.

The Ministry of Education believes that returning to taking several exams will help in the future to better pass the Unified State Exam and generally improve the preparation of schoolchildren.

Features of the new exams

Before 2016, the grading scale was different in each region. The teachers themselves determined which knowledge was worth giving an A and which was worth a D. With the introduction of new compulsory subjects, uniform standards for assessing knowledge will be introduced.

KIMs - control and measuring materials will also be developed not in the regions, but will become uniform throughout the country.

FIPI is already preparing to develop new exams for high school students. The Federal Institute of Pedagogical Measurements will most quickly add work for school graduates. The Ministry of Education also plans to increase the number of exams for the Unified State Exam.

To improve the level of training, a special certification in the fourth grade may be introduced in 2018. The issue of introducing exams in primary grades is also being considered.

Changes in CIMs and OGE assessment

As noted above, if previously only the grades of two subjects were taken into account, then from 2017 the results of all tests will influence the future certificate. Only those who pass four out of five subjects with a satisfactory grade or higher will receive a document confirming graduation from school.

As for the assignment of points for exams, they change in mathematics. Now algebra and geometry scores will be combined. As a result of each exam, you can score the following maximum number of points:

Retaking the exam

There are five exams to be taken in 2018. It is possible that some students will not be able to muster the strength and will fail one of the subjects. The Ministry of Education has provided for this situation. Students can retake exams, but there can be a maximum of two. If a student fails the test in more than two subjects, he does not move to the next grade and remains in the same grade for repeated studies.

At first glance, all these changes seem quite complicated, given that previously the OGE was not mandatory.

State Duma deputies who approved the new rules believe that the innovations will benefit society. They believe that the level of intellectual abilities of the younger generation will increase compared to the current period.

Subjects for the OGE

How many subjects will students have to take in 9th grade in 2019? The Ministry of Education has determined the minimum list of subjects that are compulsory throughout the country:

• Russian language;
• mathematics.

The results of the main state exam directly affect the grade in the certificate of secondary education, which will be obtained upon completion of 9th grade.

The decision to supplement this list is still in question - it is planned to include a mandatory history exam. The final decision should be made in 2018; if the decision is positive, the number of subjects will increase to five.

The Ministry of Education for 2019 is ready to legalize three optional exams. List of such items:

• humanities: biology, literature, foreign languages, social studies, history;

• exact sciences: chemistry, computer science and ICT, physics.

The results of passing these disciplines will help schoolchildren prepare to take the unified state exam in 11th grade, but will not affect the performance in the 9th grade certificate.

Required subjects OGE-2019

Today, educational institutions for secondary school graduates fully satisfy the requirements of Rosobrnadzor, so they rarely make any changes. However, it is too early to talk about the situation in 2019 - it is quite possible that the relevant commissions will still decide to improve:

1. OGE in mathematics

• The main news is that structurally the work has lost the module devoted to topics from “Real Mathematics”. However, the tasks of this part were redistributed between the remaining parts - algebraic and geometric - so that the number of tasks remained the same.
• The algebraic component consists of two parts (14 tasks in the first and 3 in the second). The geometric component is also presented in two parts (6 tasks in the first and 3 in the second). The first parts test basic knowledge and are simple, while the second parts include more complex tasks.

1. OGE in Russian language

The structure of the tickets includes tasks covering testing of all types of language skills:

1. First, the student will need to write a presentation based on the audio text.
2. Then solve 13 more tasks, giving a short answer.
3. In the last part there is only one task - an essay, for which you need to choose one topic from the three proposed in the ticket.

However, ninth-graders have the opportunity to write their answers as correctly as possible - they will be given spelling dictionaries.

OGE in foreign languages

Quite often, students planning to go to grades 10-11 and intending to enter linguistic universities choose to take the OGE in a foreign language. The tasks are varied and complex:

• part one is exercises for understanding English, French, German or Spanish speech by ear (listening), tasks related to testing reading skills, as well as conducting personal correspondence;
• Part two is a test of the ability to speak a foreign language.

Ninth graders will need to prepare as well as possible in order to score maximum points for all assignments.

Admission to the OGE

In 2019, all students will undergo an interview procedure in the Russian language as admission to the main exams. The interview will test students' skills in spontaneous expression of thoughts. During the interview process you will need to complete four tasks:
